Description

On an island off the coast of Maine, a man is found dead. There's no identification on the body. Only the dogged work of a pair of local newspapermen and a graduate student in forensics turns up any clues.
But that's just the beginning of the mystery. Because the more they learn about the man and the baffling circumstances of his death, the less they understand. Was it an impossible crime? Or something stranger still...?
No one but Stephen King could tell this story about the darkness at the heart of the unknown and our compulsion to investigate the unexplained. With echoes of Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon and the work of Graham Greene, one of the world's great storytellers presents a surprising tale that explores the nature of mystery itself...

All the questions we have about people we meet along the way, How complex we really all are, how mysterious really: no answers to be had, at least not definitive ones, this book points to all this and invites us to let go neat answers and tidy endings.

I have to say I'm one of Stephen King's appreciative fans. He never fails to have you absorbed by his stories. From the Stand, to Cujo, to Misery, to The Colorado Kid, they couldn't be more different. How I missed this book, I'm not sure. I own most of them. Some I love, some I really like & the odd one I'm undecided. I also like offbeat TV shows. As long as the show or the book follow the rules of the story, I'm happy. I started to watch Haven at episode 1 & loved it. It had many twists & turns, and not every episode was perfect. The casting was good. The reason I mention this, is because I finally read The Colorado Kid. I loved it. I was worried that either the story or the show would lose out because I saw the show first. Not at all, the whole time I was reading, I could picture the two old newspapermen telling their tale. I felt like I really knew them. The show portrayed them, at least to me, just the way Stephen King wrote them.

Didn't care much for this novella. Seriously, save your 6$ for some other book.

Great read! Not the King book you are used to but keep an open mind. Spin off television series is nothing like the book but give it a try as well.
