This book, by Daniel Yergin should be required reading for all students, at some point, the world over. Never have I encountered such an all encompassing, informative and concise revelation of anything-especially something as important as The Prize...a.k.a. OIL. Yergin has left no stone unturned in this masterful work, enlightening the reader page after page, through the first oil discovery, the formation of companies worldwide, the transportation, storage and the dark days of WW 1 & 2, where oil played such a major role. I found every page of this book more and more thrilling as he spoke of arrangements made during the Cold War, the political posturing and the formation of OPEC. If ever there was a book that a person should read several times throughout his life, this would be it!
