Alan Cross is the preeminent chronicler of popular music.

Here he provides a history of the mysterious and eccentric rock band Tool.

This look at "a band that stays so deep in the shadows that they could walk past 99 percent of their fans on the street and never be recognized" is adapted from the audiobook.

  • Not What I Hoped For

    From Sysyphus 1259
I love Tool and everything about them. I enjoy listening to Alan Cross, and have a ton of respect for the man. But I have to say, this book was a bit of a dissapointment. Even though it was just released, the material is 5 years old, so there is nothing new, here. Hard core fans of Tool will already know at least 95% of what Alan has to share, so there aren't really any "secrets" in this ongoing history. Casual fans and those curious about Tool might enjoy it as a quick read, but it's more of a summary of facts and rumours than an in-depth bio. This is the first one of these books by Alan that I've read, so maybe I'm missing the point. But, I love EVERYTHING about Tool, and it only costs a buck, so I can't complain too much. I'll give it 3 start on that basis. I hope one day Alan decides to right an in-depth book on Tool. I would buy that in a heartbeat.
