After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he’s still in good health, and one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn’t interested (and he’d like a bit more control over his alcohol consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey.

It would be the adventure of a lifetime for anyone else, but Allan has a larger-than-life backstory: Not only has he witnessed some of the most important events of the twentieth century, he has actually played a key role in them. Quirky and utterly unique, The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared has charmed readers across the world.

I don’t normally read this type of book, but had heard good things about it. I was not disappointed - a very enjoyable read!

  • Wonderfully entertaining

    From JPF_H
Was not sure what to expect when I downloaded this book. The reviews were very good but not normally the type I read. My surprise was profound. Wonderfully written fanciful strange all at once and yet somehow it all tied together. It was the perfect book for a long flight and nights alone in a hotel in a foreign land. The problem is it may have spoiled me. Do yourself a favour and read this.

This well written book held my attention from the beginning to the end. I enjoyed the style of the author and his ability to make me laugh out loud. The author's talent of weaving historical facts into the story was excellent. I wish that I could meet someone as colorful as Allan. Well done.

  • Good but...

    From EllieBellyWellyJelly
I did not download this book, I have it in print, but I just want to say how amazing it is. It's a great book, the kind of book you just can't put down. I would have recommended it to my younger siblings, I was highly considering it all through the start, as they enjoy the random, funny, and slightly unbelievable storyline, and then they came to that lady who swore a lot and had an elephant who Benny falls in head over heels love with... Yeah, that part got me to frown a bit and reconsider my option of recommendations. The children in my family would highly enjoy the start, but would be not allowed to read the second half... Kind of a shame, because the book's so hard to put down. I love this book, but have two complaints: The book has some content inappropriate for younger ages, And the ending (to me) seemed rather bamboozling...
  • Incredible adventure

There are stories that both make you laugh and touch you. This is one of them. I cannot help but think of Forest Gump when reading this amazing journey. If you liked Forest, you'll definitely fall in love with this brilliant book.
