Description

Philosophers can be tough to read; they use words like "phenomenological", "deontology", and "noumena". It's not because they're deep; it's because they can't write.

In Philosophy Decoded, Adam Norman does two things to make philosophy accessible. First, he trims out all of the boring parts, leaving only the good stuff. Next, he translates the best parts into ordinary, 21st century English.

Each chapter of the book is a passage from a seminal philosophy text followed by a "decoded" version of the same passage written in simple, modern language. Philosophy written in language I can understand. What a revelation! If I'd had this book in university I might not have dropped my Intro to Philosophy course. This guy should be every philosophy teacher everywhere. The author likely wouldn't agree, but my advice to you is to skip the original text (unless you're having trouble sleeping) and go directly to his decoding of the text. It's very illuminating.
