I received this book for free from the author on iBooks If one word can aptly describe a book it would be PHENOMENAL!!!!! A wonderful romance set in the 1600's in the Great Lakes the beginnings of Canada a rough and wild country where the men were even rougher. Andre Lefebvre is a trapper but to be legal he has to marry to obtain a license, this goes against the grain for him he's more savage Indian than French! He devised a plan - he would marry from the women that came on the Kings girl's (Filles du Roi) ship from France and get his license, of course he would choose the one with the weakest constitution hoping she wouldn't last the fierce winter and die! Genevieve Lalande becomes ill on the way over but that just serves her purpose she has a secret that can be deadly for her if found out! But Genevieve is made of stronger stuff she wouldn't have survived this long if she was weak, she not only survives her illness, but presents herself to Andre on the eve of his departure, refusing to be left behind. Against his better judgment Andre agrees, thinking that the rough terrain will break Genevieve, and she'll meekly return to the settlements. Yet once again, his unpredictable wife proves to be more than she seems - in more ways than one... This is a great, fully engrossing story and I loved it immensely. The fact that Andre and Genevieve are deceiving each other, there is a surprising degree of mutual respect and depth to their budding relationship. When the deceptions are fully revealed, they weather the storm and their relationship and love is stronger because of it. The lovescenes are scorching & very well-written, the dialogue witty and engaging. The scenery descriptive and well written bring the pages alive. I would definitely recommend this author.
